Best Books of 2017
I had a terrible year at reading. I only read 150 books last year. I know that is more than all the students in all of my classes have ever read but for me that is a bad year. I usually do double that. I've been writing more and focusing on my publishing rather than reading. Also I've had trouble finding good books. That has lead me to share the best books I've read this year so others can at least have some good books to read.
In no particular order.
Love Undefined
A collection of short stories I was floored as I usually hate anthologies. These are stories by a group of members of my church but overseas. I loved the stories and the sweetness that I often miss in a lot of stories I read by more worldly authors.
Wildfire by Ilona Andrews
This was much anticipated. The first book came out and then the next two were stalled because trad pub sucks. This was the last book in the series and I was good and reread the others so I got the best impact. I was not disappointed. A great conclusion to the whole series and worth the wait.
Orion by Ruby Lionsdrake
I think part of why I like this book is that the author is prolific and managed to knock out the entire series in one year. This is a typical earth woman kidnapped and taken to space kind of drama. Fun and funny it is well worth the read.
The Rogue Prince by Lindsay Buroker
The second series in this universe I was already primed to enjoy it. Again this author is prolific mainly because Ruby is her pen name and so she has several books in this universe already. This is more serious than her Ruby works as the romance takes a back seat to the world building.
Silence Fallen by Patricia Briggs
This is a long standing series and I read the others in the series to be ready for this one. This was better than expected as when you have a few books in a series you can lag a bit. Especially when the romance element is well established it is hard to show a relationship developing when you have the falling in love part.
Etched in Bone by Anne Bishop
Anne isn't always consistent so I was resistent to read this series but when I did give in it became a quick favourite. This is near the end of the series and I was frustrated as the love interest story line still hasn't played out but it did keep me engaged.
